GBC ITALIA AT KEY 2024. The future of the energy transition of Italian real estate.
Energy-environmental sustainability has become a crucial priority for industrial sectors all over the world, including the built environment. Indeed, the built environment is one of the largest emitters of carbon (37% globally and 40% in Europe) and is therefore now at a historic turning point where energy efficiency and emission reduction are key priorities to successfully achieve the 2030 and 2050 sustainability targets.
Italy does not deviate from this scenario, which is characterised by a significantly critical real estate stock in terms of energy and environmental efficiency, with about 2.1 million residential buildings -equal to 17% of the total residential stock- that are in a poor state of preservation. Data that clearly express what is expected from the world of urban regeneration in terms of improved performance and quality of life for citizens.
For these reasons, from 28 February to 1 March, Green Building Council Italia (GBC Italia) will be present at KEY - The Energy Transition Expo, at the Rimini Exhibition Centre, the reference event in Southern Europe, Africa and the Mediterranean basin on energy transition.
In continuity with what has been developed over the last few years, the collaboration that sees GBC Italia in the role of main partner of the Sustainable Building District project within the framework of the Rimini international exhibition continues. The focus of the Association's participation will be precisely that of activating a reflection on the potential of the building and real estate supply chain in contributing to the pursuit of Sustainable Development objectives, starting from the real and measured benefits in terms of impacts and positive externalities generated by green buildings certified according to LEED and GBC protocols in Italy to date: which, among others, are able to produce more than 109,640 MWh of energy from renewable sources, avoiding the emission of around 24,230 tonnes of CO2 and guaranteeing external cost savings of € 9,280,00, as well as an overall saving of - 608,269 MWh of electricity. These data were collected in the Impact Report realised by Green Building Council Italia in cooperation with The European House - Ambrosetti.
GBC Italia's Sustainable Building District is the first area focused on the themes of energy transition, application of renewable energies, decarbonisation, circular economy and certified building. It is a project dedicated to fostering and accelerating the spread of a culture of sustainable building that enables everyone to live in a way that respects the needs of man and the environment: spreading good practices and fostering meetings and exchanges between stakeholders in the supply chain for the promotion of new projects.
The Sustainable Building District will be located inside the pavilion dedicated to energy efficiency B5 - Stand 065, with a rich programme of conventions, meetings and networking dedicated to the protagonists of the sector.
