Agrivoltaics is a crucial solution to achieving the renewable power (or electricity) generation goals for our country. However, the issue of plant insertion into the landscape remains one of the main barriers to its implementation. In fact, while it is true that agrivoltaics is in itself an innovative approach capable of combining renewable energy production with agriculture, offering benefits for both the environment and local communities, the challenge is to implement a sustainable transformation of the landscape through the development and adoption of innovative approaches and solutions that make the value of agrivoltaics tangible to the entire community. So, on the one hand, the benefits of agrivoltaics will have to be assessable and quantifiable for the territories in which the intervention is inserted, and on the other hand, they will have to constitute a shared value, of which the landscape is a collective representation. This is a complex challenge, and one that takes a long time for collective thinking, with respect to which we are only taking the first steps.

The session brings together several innovations to serve a sustainable vision of agrivoltaics, benefiting the environment and landscape. It is a review of the innovative solutions currently available for the development of agrivoltaic systems (data collection and management; development of platforms for monitoring agricultural activity and electrical production, environmental parameters and biodiversity; optimization of agrivoltaic system performance), but also innovations that foster synergy between the worlds of agriculture and photovoltaics, and between agrivoltaics and society at large.
