AN INCREASINGLY INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE PROGRAMME AT KEY - THE ENERGY TRANSITION EXPO

Rimini, 21st February 2024 . A quality conference programme with a strong international component awaits the energy transition community at KEY - The Energy Transition Expo, the IEG (Italian Exhibition Group) event of reference in Southern Europe, Africa and the Mediterranean basin.
Between 28th February and 1st March, the numerous events, conferences and debates, defined by KEY´s Technical-Scientific Committee, chaired by Professor Gianni Silvestrini and made up of institutions, industrial trade associations, technical-scientific associations, organisations and foundations, will enliven Rimini Expo Centre´s halls and Agoras to completely explore the theme of energy efficiency and reflect on the transformations featured in the energy market and energy and climate policies in Europe in light of the new National Integrated Plans for Energy and Climate (NIPECs).

The programme of events at KEY 2024 will provide an opportunity to learn about and present the main technological innovations and discover the latest opportunities that energy transition offers to the countries bordering the Mediterranean, as well as to exchange opinions with experts in the field and listen to the views of prominent speakers from the world of academia, research, institutions, associations and companies.

FORUMTECH
Wednesday 28th February, in Sala Neri 1, will see the Italia Solare association´s event for manufacturers, designers and installers of photovoltaic systems and all those players in the photovoltaic-related supply chain who want to learn more about the most recent technological and regulatory opportunities on the market in order to stay up-to-date on the latest developments in a constantly evolving sector. The event´s programme will be divided into parallel sessions, each of which will provide a vertical in-depth look at the technical regulations or the main technologies related to photovoltaic systems of all sizes and applications.



KEY ENERGY SUMMIT: IN THE PRESENCE OF GILBERTO PICHETTO FRATIN, MINISTER FOR THE ENVIRONMENT
The KEY ENERGY SUMMIT has been scheduled for Wednesday 28th February at 2.30 pm in the Lorenzo Cagnoni Dome - Innovation Square. It will include Alessandro Marangoni´s presentation of the study carried out by Althesys entitled ´System governance, the key to transition. A coordinated strategy for renewables, storage and grids to decarbonise Italy´.
This will be followed by a round table at which ANEV, ANIE Rinnovabili, Assoidroelettrica, CIB (Consorzio Italiano Biogas), Coordinamento FREE, Elettricità Futura, Federidroelettrica and Italia Solare will discuss ´The proposals of the Renewables Associations´. In the conclusions, the point of view of the Ministry for the Environment and Energy Security, outlined by Minister Gilberto Pichetto Fratin.
The event will begin with institutional greetings from Corrado Peraboni, CEO of Italian Exhibition Group. Gianni Silvestrini, Chairman of KEY´s Technical-Scientific Committee, will be making the introductions.

SUPPLY CHAINS OF THE FUTURE: PRESENTATION OF THE 2ND REPORT ON THE PRODUCTION GEOGRAPHY OF RENEWABLES IN ITALY
Thursday 29th February at 11.00 am in the Lorenzo Cagnoni Dome - Innovation Square, will see the presentation of Supply Chains of the Future: 2nd report on the production geography of renewables in Italy, promoted by Fondazione Symbola and Italian Exhibition Group, in collaboration with the sector´s main trade associations such as AIEL, ANEV, ANIE, Federidroelettrica, Italia Solare.
The Report will analyse the prospects for the development of renewables between now and 2030 and the characteristics and sectorial and territorial distribution of active and potentially active companies in the photovoltaic, wind, hydroelectric, thermal solar, geothermal and bioenergy sectors.
The event will begin with greetings from Alessandra Astolfi, Global Exhibition Director Green & Technology Division at IEG. The presentation of the Report, organised by Domenico Sturabotti, Director of Fondazione Symbola, and Gianni Silvestrini, President of KEY´s Technical-Scientific Committee, will be followed by two round tables.
Nicola Saldutti, a Corriere della Sera journalist, will moderate.

LORENZO CAGNONI INNOVATION AWARD
On Wednesday 28th February at 5 pm, the Lorenzo Cagnoni Innovation Award will be assigned in the Lorenzo Cagnoni Dome - Innovation Square.

INTERNATIONAL EVENTS
The KEY programme will have an increasingly more international vocation.
Focus on Africa and the need to speed up the continent´s sustainable electrification to meet the growing demand for energy in the event entitled Scaling-Up a sustainable electrification in Africa, for Africa with Africa. Side Event RES4Africa - Towards G7 Energy, organised by RES4Africa, preparatory to the G7 Energy in Turin and divided into two sessions devoted respectively to North Africa and the Middle East and to Sub-Saharan countries. The event has been scheduled for 29th February from 2 to 5 pm and 1st March from 10 am to 1 pm.
On Friday, 1st March from 10.30 am to 1 pm, the EUPD Research Conference Session | Addressing the Challenges of Europe´s Solar & Storage Boom (Large-scale Focus), organised by Ibesa - International Battery and Energy Storage Alliance, will analyse the latest advances, cutting-edge technologies and new trends in utility-scale storage in major European markets, offering a comprehensive overview of the sector´s hot topics, from investments to the most revolutionary projects and the exploration of new opportunities in the co-location of large-scale storage systems.

SOLAR, PHOTOVOLTAICS, STORAGE AND WIND POWER
On Wednesday 28th February, the Italia Solare association´s ForumTech will be back at Rimini Expo Centre for its fourth edition.

Considerable focus on the topic of utility scale electrical storage and the regulatory and authorisation aspects in the MACSE event: The forward market for electrical storage systems organised by the ANIE Federazione, to provide an overview of policies for promoting utility scale storage and the best practices adopted in Europe by member states, highlighting the main elements of the Italian schedule (29th February).
Also central is the theme of Renewable Energy Communities on which Legambiente´s Renewable and Supportive Energy Communities events will focus: Focus on BeComE, the campaign in Small Municipalities created with Kyoto Club and AzzeroCO2, organised by Kyoto Club and Legambiente, to present the Report on existing RECs and analyse the prospects of energy communities and their role in tackling the increasingly pressing issue of energy poverty, not only in small municipalities (29th February), and ENEA´s Observatory for Energy Communities, which, for the second year, will bring together companies, Public Administration, utilities, research institutes, associations and freelancers, with the aim of analysing the entire chain of creation and management of RECs, identifying critical issues, contributing to the definition of policies, standards and best practices, and supporting PA, citizens and companies in this new energy and management challenge with its environmental, economic and social repercussions (1st March).
On Friday 1st March, ENEA - National Agency for New Technologies, Energy and Sustainable Economic Development, will be organising the event entitled Concentrating solar thermal power to support the decarbonisation of the Italian energy system: opportunities, challenges, critical issues, role of stakeholders
on the analysis of the current situation of technology in Italy and its strong points, and the presentation of the first application experiences.
Three events organised by ANEV will focus on wind energy: Simplification to achieve NIPEC objectives and The wind power industry for energy transition scheduled for Thursday 29th February, and the Summit on offshore wind in Italy and Europe to take a close look at the prospects of offshore technology in the Mediterranean area through the analysis of sector regulations, European experiences and company testimonials (1st March).

THE RENEWABLES SCENARIO
Transversal events on the energy transition theme include, Efficiency and renewables to speed up the energy transition process. ESCo as a central player in achieving the NIPEC goals, organised by AssoEsco (28th February), SUN4U project, developing the REC with a click, by Federesco (28th February), Utilities and the transition, from renewables to consumers. How the role and supply of utilities is changing towards new sustainability scenarios, by Althesys and Utilitalia (29th February), and Checkmate for renewables 2024. At what point are we in the development of renewables and the achievement of climate goals? What obstacles are still preventing the development of these technologies? organised by Legambiente, which aims to bring together the various stakeholders in the sector and take stock of the critical issues to be addressed and possible solutions to be put in place to speed up energy transition (29th February).
Also on Thursday 29th February, Elettricità Futura will be organising the event entitled Energy Transition: less costs and more security for the country: an opportunity to bring together leading institutions and companies in the electricity sector and discuss the most urgent actions to make the regulatory and authorisation framework a driving force for the country´s transition.
Elettricità Futura, together with ANIE Federazione, will also be organising Accumulation and Grids: energy transition enablers in Italy to talk about the actions to be taken quickly to develop electricity transmission and distribution networks and further storage capacity.

Dedicated to a highly topical issue linked to the demonstrations of recent weeks, the event, organised by Kyoto Club, Tractor protests: what options for combining sustainable agriculture, renewable energies and carbon markets? will analyse the problems and opportunities of energy transition in these sectors (28th February).

The GSE will host the meeting RECs as drivers of the energy transition. The role of the GSE in supporting operators which aims to delve into opportunities related to renewable energy communities and self-consumption configurations for sharing renewable energy (29th February).
The event Regions in the climate neutrality challenge. Presentation of CIRO: the first database with the data and good practices of Italian Regions, organised by Italy For Climate, will see the participation of the Government, public bodies and regional Governors and will provide the chance to present the CIRO (Climate Indicators for Italian RegiOns) platform, the first interactive tool, developed by Italy for Climate in collaboration with Ispra, to support regional administrations in the decarbonisation process of their territories, which, through 26 indicators divided into eight thematic areas, not only analyses, monitors and compares the performance of all Italian regions but also shares good practices.
Young People for Renewable Energy Communities, organised by Kyoto Club, will analyse the results of the workshop ´Energy Transition and Low Carbon Architecture´ that 60 Master in Sustainable Architecture students from different countries, including Afghanistan, China, Colombia, Egypt, Ethiopia, Finland, Georgia, Germany, India, Iran, Italy, Lebanon, Mexico, Nigeria, Sri Lanka and Turkey, have been working on for four months at Turin Polytechnic.
Agri-voltaics will be discussed at the conference The development of sustainable agrivoltaics, the complexity of the hybrid model organised by ENEA, where the main issues to be resolved for the development of the sector in Italy will be addressed.
On Friday 1st March, the same topic will be the focus of the event The value of sustainable agrivoltaics, dimensions and metrics organised by AIAS . Italian Sustainable Agrivoltaic Association and Emilia-Romagna´s Clust-ER Greentech.
The event, organised by ANEV, ANIE Federazione, H2IT and Italia Solare and scheduled for Friday 1st March, is entitled Private national and foreign investments for the development of green supply chains and the decarbonisation of production systems: MIMIT/Invitalia objectives and tools.
On the same day, Italian Exhibition Group in collaboration with ReteAmbiente will organise the Presentation of the third edition of the ´High School for Ecological Transition´ - SAFTE 2024.

Also on Friday 1st March, the conference entitled Production, Self-consumption and Sharing Thermal Energy, organised by ENEA, will aim to lay the foundations for a debate with the institutions in order to support energy policies to achieve the objectives of the NIPEC and strengthen the sector´s entire supply chain. The results and the main observations on the issues of production, self-consumption and sharing thermal energy will be presented with the aim of outlining possible future strategies useful for achieving the decarbonisation objectives set by the European Union.
Landscape protection will be the focus of Landscape protection in the energy transition, a possible challenge. How to unite the growth of renewables and the safeguarding of natural and artistic heritage? organised by Althesys: a conference to support a sustainable and harmonious energy future in which RES can become an integrated resource in the territories, respectful of the environment and the communities that host them (1st March).
Lastly, Coordinamento Free will be organising the conference on New Solutions for Long-Term Storage, while Rimini´s Tecnopolo, in cooperation with Uni. Rimini spa, the Centre for Solar Communities, Gruppo SGR Rimini, Riviera Banca and Level4, will present the event Energy Transition: Solar Communities and Corporate Responsibility and Borghi più Belli d´Italia will organise Resilient, Sustainable Energy Villages: Exploring Renewable Energy Communities in Small Municipalities, an in-depth session on: regulatory developments, opportunities for contributions and concessions, creation, possible legal forms and specific requirements for setting up Energy Communities, tax aspects, incentives and renewable energy in villages. Best experiences will be presented with concrete examples that municipal administrations have been able to implement in the creation of RECs (1st March).

HYDROGEN
The KEY 2024 programme will dedicate considerable space to hydrogen.
Hydrogen Combustion and Energy Transition, organised by ENEA, aims to illustrate the state of the art of combustion blends with different hydrogen content, highlighting the main criticalities and sharing results, projects and initiatives (28th February). Another topic of discussion will be Hydrogen storage: a connecting element between production and use to take stock, together with companies and research organisations involved in the development of storage systems, of the various stationary and mobility applications by discussing the different operating conditions, technical characteristics, advantages and disadvantages, possible related risks, as well as aspects related to existing standards and regulations with the aim of stimulating the emergence of a process that can foster the market for new hydrogen storage technologies, also by consolidating technical regulations and standards in order to facilitate their use in real applications (28th February).

Hannover Fairs International GmbH and Italian Exhibition Group will be organising Hydrogen + Fuel Cells, to discuss the contribution hydrogen can make towards achieving Europe´s climate targets and the challenges facing industries in the transition towards a low-emission future (28th February).
Hydrogen in hard-to-decarbonise sectors; from experimentation to large-scale plants, organised by ENEA and H2IT, will focus on the importance of hydrogen in decarbonising hard-to-abate sectors and on the need to build a strong supply chain of suppliers, solutions and technologies at competitive costs in order to develop a real hydrogen market. The conference will take an in-depth look at projects currently underway in Italy and the latest technological developments in providing hydrogen ready products (29th February).
The Italian Hydrogen Valley: an opportunity for the development of the national hydrogen supply chain?, organised by ENEA and H2IT, will take stock of the current state of development of Italian valleys and examine critical issues and the main applications of renewable hydrogen (29th February).
On Friday 1st March, Hydrogen´s contribution to the evolution of naval and air transport and to the transformation of ports and airports, again organised by ENEA and H2IT, will address the role of hydrogen in decarbonising mobility and transport logistics (especially heavy and long-distance), without forgetting the technological challenges linked both to vehicles and to the transformation of logistics, goods exchange and passenger transport hubs, such as ports and airports, highlighting the initiatives of companies and organisations and solutions in support of this transformation.
On Thursday 29th February, Green Hydrogen: national strategies and opportunities for collaboration with Latin American countries will be discussed at the event organised by IILA, the International Italo-Latin American Organisation, during which national strategies on green hydrogen in Latin American countries will be presented and opportunities for development and investment in the region will be discussed.
Lastly, ART-ER in collaboration with Vanguard Initiative, Pilot Hydrogen will organise the event entitled Strengthening Hydrogen Ecosystems through Cross-Regional Collaboration and Innovation (1st March).

ENERGY EFFICIENCY
Energy efficiency will also be the focus of events scheduled at KEY 2024.
Starting on Wednesday 28th February, the event The UNI CEI 11339 revision: the EGE protagonist in energy transition organised by FIRE and Assoege, will focus on the changes in the new standard on EQF (European framework of professions), energy auditors and new tasks, the knowledge and skills that a professional will have to possess in order to obtain certification, and Energy efficiency at the service of the sports world, organised by Federesco, will aim to involve sector operators in order to raise their awareness in view of the large investment planned for sports facilities, which have been severely affected by the crisis and on which efficiency measures are needed to guarantee a reduction in costs, save energy and produce renewable energy, and to discuss possible solutions.
Further topics of discussion will be Post superbonus. Proposals for real estate energy requalification in a seminar organised by Coordinamento Free to take stock of the policies in force and think about improvement proposals, and Measurement and verification of energy savings and Energy manager: appointment, role, resources, two events organised by FIRE (29th February).
On Thursday 29th February, SmartEN - Smart Energy Europe will be organising the conference Demand flexibility: benefits for consumers and contribution to a more efficient decarbonised system to
present the potential of consumer flexibility in Europe in 2030 and illustrate successful business models that contribute both to making the energy transition more efficient and to directly compensating consumers.
Friday 1st March will see the events Energy efficiency in production processes: the experience of the PREPAIR project and Financing energy efficiency measures in companies: criteria and tools organised by the Emilia-Romagna Region and ART-ER in cooperation with the partners of the PREPAIR Integrated Life Project.

ELECTRIC MOBILITY
On the e-mobility front, the first planned event, entitled The recharging infrastructure of the future (28th February), organised by ANIE, will aim to examine the indispensable role of infrastructure as an enabling factor for e-mobility, asking whether it is true that Italy´s recharging infrastructure is insufficient, whether current recharging times are incompatible with the habits of Italian motorists, and whether the distribution network is capable of bearing the load of multiple electric vehicles, with a look at technologies such as Plug&Charge, V1G and V2G. ENEA on the other hand, will organise E-mobility between present and future (28th February)
The event Skills for doing business and working in electric mobility, organised by Motus-E, will explore the prospects of the Italian automotive energy ecosystem, involving representatives from industry, institutions and the world of education in a debate aimed at identifying the right path to maximise the competitiveness of companies and the country (29th February).
Motus-E and Kyoto Club, in collaboration with Ecomondo and KEY´s Technical and Scientific Committee, will be organising the conference entitled Commercial Vehicles to the (re)charge! Electrification of goods transport in Italy and the implementation of recharging infrastructures to discuss, together with Authorities, Institutions, road and electricity network managers and logistics and transport operators, the current European regulatory context on the electrification of commercial vehicles and the implementation in Italy of the AFIR regulation for recharging infrastructures (29th February).
On Friday 1st March, Vaielettrico will take an in-depth look at the topic of Electric mobility and critical raw materials: availability, sustainable extraction, recycling and new research frontiers.

SUSTAINABLE CITY
Space will be given to the theme of Sustainable City, starting with The European initiative for innovation in the built-up environment: Built4People organised by KEY´s Technical-Scientific Committee in cooperation with Green Building Council Italia. The event, attended by representatives of the European Commission, will take an in-depth look at the programme and urban regeneration projects in favour, not only of energy efficiency, but also of the well-being and safety of people in the built-up environment (28th February).
On Thursday 29th February, KEY´s TSC, together with ANCI - National Association of Italian Municipalities, will also organise The point on policies, tools and actions to make municipalities´ assets more efficient. The leitmotifs will be decarbonisation, energy transition and climate sustainability, starting from consumption and the energy efficiency of local government assets on the most innovative frontier, which is currently witnessing the updating of the national energy strategy and the NIPEC. The event foresees the work conducted on the NIPEC´s ´Civil´ Table by the Ministry for the Environment and Energy Transition (MASE) and ENEA on the topics of public asset and property efficiency, starting from asset mapping and the proposal of new fiscal levers to increase the effectiveness of intervention. The topics addressed by the municipalities will include: energy efficiency, NZEB in light of the new EU ´Green Homes´ Directive, new technologies and renewable sources to be exploited, the integrated role of buildings and mobility, the challenging objectives of zero carbon emission cities, and the combination of nature-based interventions and water saving, also in view of the opportunities linked to the NRRP.
In the event entitled Cities and territories on a people-friendly scale, KEY´s CTS, in collaboration with LUMI, will also focus on the need to redesign infrastructures and services by putting the citizen at the centre and on what local authorities and operators in the sector are doing in this moment of change (29th February).

LIGHT ENCOUNTERS
Thanks to the well-established cooperation with AIDI (Italian Lighting Association), KEY´S conference programme will also include lighting and its role in the creation of the cities of the future. The 4 talks entitled Light Encounters, to be held in the Light Encounters Arena (Stand 161 - Hall B5), will provide an in-depth look at the importance of efficient lighting for energy transition, involving all the protagonists of the sector. Professionals, experts, companies, utilities and representatives from Public Administration will be able to discuss, share their experiences and reflect on the future of increasingly intelligent, interactive and sustainable lighting.
Specifically, the talks will cover: Energy performance of housing lighting systems and control systems (28th February), Photovoltaics and emergency lighting in environmental disasters and wars and State of the art of the use of NRRP funds allocated to public lighting (29th February), The role of lighting in industrial energy efficiency (1st March).

SOLAR LOUNGE
The appointment with the Solar Lounge has been confirmed (Workshop Arena, Hall C1).
On Thursday 29th February, Sergio Ferraris will present his book Vivere felici senza gas (Living Happily without Gas), which gives all the necessary information on how to lower the bills and become gas-free, shedding light on existing technologies and demonstrating that it is possible to change by starting from the way to consume and produce energy.
On the same day, the meeting entitled Productive errors . How mistakes can contribute to progress organised by Giovanni Battista Zorzoli, will analyse clamorous, mainly scientific, errors committed by well-known people, such as Columbus´s calculation mistakes or wrong investments that almost made John Rockefeller bankrupt.
