The transition to a zero-emission future requires innovative solutions and new energy carriers to meet the challenges of decarbonization in hard-to-abate transportation sectors such as maritime and aviation. This event, organized by Transport & Environment as part of KEY ENERGY 2025, is a unique opportunity to analyze the crucial role that synthetic fuels will play in the European landscape, highlighting strategies, progress and opportunities. With the participation of institutional representatives, including the European Commission, the Italian Ministry of the Environment and the Spanish government, and key industry players, the debate will explore regulatory and technological developments, while highlighting the main barriers-economic, regulatory and infrastructural-that still hinder the full development of this emerging market. The goal is to stimulate a joint reflection on the conditions needed to enable industrial stakeholders to actively contribute to the transition to climate neutrality, providing a clear and shared vision on future priorities, with the aim of keeping the competitiveness of the Italian industrial sector high in a context of ever-increasing competition, both extra-EU and intra-EU.

Program

How are other member states doing? What are the enablers from a regulatory perspective?
Benito Nunez Quintanilla, Secretary General Air and Maritime Transport - Spanish Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility

Presentation of T&E observatories (e-kerosene for aviation and e-fuels for maritime) and Italy's lag on synthetic fuels: what industrial risks?
Carlo Tritto, Sustainable Fuels Manager, T&E Italy

Costs and opportunities of the transition from an industry perspective. What barriers to overcome for greater adoption of these fuels?
Dario Bocchetti, Head of Energy Saving R&D and Ship Design, Grimaldi Group

What can Italy do to close the emerging industry gap on these fuels? The National Hydrogen Strategy and next steps.
