To achieve the decarbonization goals in the aviation sector, adequate airport infrastructures capable of supporting the energy transition will be needed. The SAVES project, launched by ENAC and ENEA, saw the selection of concept notes from Aeroporti di Roma and SEA Milan Airports to analyze the potential integration of green hydrogen and Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) into the airport logistics chain. Airports, like complex ecosystems, can lead the way for circular management of green energy carriers, integrated with the surrounding territories and communities. This session will present the results of the concrete studies conducted at Rome Fiumicino and Milan Malpensa airports, highlighting actions, the necessary support measures still required, and some additional potential regulatory implementations aimed at promoting the long-term economic sustainability of project initiatives focused on introducing these energy carriers into the airport logistics chain
